European Doctoral School of Demography 2018

The European Doctoral School of Demography is accepting applications for the 2018/2019 school year.

The EDSD is an eleven-month program that is offered every year aiming to provide students in the first year of their doctoral studies with an appropriate high-level education in demography.

In the 2018/19 school year the School will be held at two different locations. The preparatory courses (from early September to mid-October 2018) will be offered at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany. The core courses (from mid-October 2018 until end of July 2019) will be held at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, Denmark.


CfP for International PhD Workshop on Migration and Integration

The Hertie School of Governance in Berlin invites PhD students to participate in a workshop on migration and integration, taking place on July 3-4, 2018. The event is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the IPID4all programme “PHD GLOBAL”.

Abstracts of papers focusing on – but not limited to – the following topics are welcome:
– The analysis of international migration flows, including forced migration
– Migration policies and migration flows
– The integration of immigrants into their host countries, in its various  dimensions (e.g., economic, social, political)
– Family behaviour of immigrants
– The societal and economic integration of the descendants of migrants
– Political, social and demographic effects of migration on host societies

Registration for 6th Interdisciplinary International pairfam Conference

The pairfam team invites to the 6th Interdisciplinary International pairfam Conference: “Innovations in Panel Data Methodsin Munich from June 28th-29th, 2018.

Furthermore, they invite to the pre-conference workshop “Introduction to pairfam Data and Fixed Effects Regressions” from 14:00 to 18:00 on June 27th, 2018. This workshop is a stand-alone event and can be attended independently from the conference.

Die Hertie School of Governance und die Universität Rostock laden vom 03.05.-04.05.2018 nach Berlin zum Workshop ein.

Thematisch konzentriert er sich auf nationale und internationale Lebensläufe von Eltern nach Trennung und Scheidung und auf die Frage, wie diese durch individuelle Geschichten, aber auch durch Sozialpolitik geprägt sind. 

Es erwarten Sie interessante Sessions, zum Beispiel zum Thema „Folgen der Trennung für Wohlbefinden und soziale Unterstützung“ und „Das Wohlergehen von Single-Müttern in Japan“ oder „Der Einfluss von wirtschaftlichen und innerfamiliären Faktoren auf den Kontakt von Nichtvätern mit ihren Kindern“.
